Dear Parents and Driver Education Students,
This letter is to inform you of the next available Driver Training class that will be offered. The first class will be a Zoom call on June 10th from 6-7:00 p.m. All other classes will be held at the Addison Fire Department from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. The Fire Dept. has a classroom that I rent, and we will use for our class periods. We need to be very respectful and thankful to the firemen for allowing us to hold our classes there.
Included with this letter is the Segment 1 student contract that must be signed and returned with the full payment within one week of reception of this letter to lock in their spot. I will also need a copy of the student's birth certificate by the first class session. This class will be full and I have students on a waiting list, so if I do not hear from you or receive your paperwork and payment within one week of receiving this letter, I will begin accepting those on the waiting list. These are all requirements of the Department of State that must be followed. I have a copy machine so I can make a copy of your child's birth certificate and return the original to you on the following day if this makes it easier for you.
Driving will be scheduled on a first come first served basis after I have the student's contract in hand. They will be given a copy of the drive schedule for you to fill in and return to me. We will drive for at least three hours each day before class. Each student needs six hours of practice driving in the driver education car, but may only do one hour per day. Drive times will be determined by the students' schedules; therefore, they may choose the days and times that will work for them. Please pick all Saturdays that will work for you plus one other day during each of the 3 weeks for a total of 6 drives. This ensures a fair opportunity for all. These hours will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. Pick up the schedule from Mrs. Ramsdell when they drop off their contract and full payment. Pick up and drop off location for driving will be the Fire Barn. Always have your student at the Fire Barn 15 min. before their scheduled drive time in case we are early. In addition to their six hours of driving, the State requires the students ride an additional four hours in the driver ed. car. This will also be scheduled when scheduling their drive times.
I would like to plan on at least two students in the car at all times, but there could be times when only one student will be in the car at a time. In this instance, the state requires a parent waiver form be signed. I have also included this form on the bottom of the contract to be signed and returned with the student contract.
The first class session/parent meeting will be held through Zoom on Monday, June 10th from 6-7:00 p.m. and all other dates will be held at the Fire Station. The following dates will be the dates we will meet for classes at the station: June 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, and 26th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. The class on June 10th will also include a parent meeting so at least one parent MUST attend. We will discuss the steps and stages of the Michigan Graduated Driver Licensing System, and it is important that each student have one parent present. When handing in the paperwork, please include the email you would like the Zoom link sent to for the first class session, where it is indicated on the front page at the top of the contract. We will not meet on Saturday's or Sunday's for class, but we will drive on Saturday's. A syllabus will be handed out with the book, workbook, and folder. If they are an Addison student, they will get their materials from the HS office upon the announcement. If they are not an Addison student, you will need to make arrangements to get the materials from the address listed at the top of the contract. If not received within one week of reception, I will assume they are not taking the class and will begin accepting other students to fill their position. Please send all paperwork and class fees ($400) to the address typed on the top of the contract, or bring to Mrs. Ramsdell at Room 120 in the Elementary building, before, during or after school.
